Any time I believe. I think they like to be kept out of extreme weather. We got ours all ready to go. They keep going for 5 cycles then they run down and the strain gets weaker and more prone to problems (So I'm told).
We don't keep them in the dark but not in full sun. That said, mushrooms grow out in the paddock! Just keep the moisture up to them.
